Sometimes it seems hard to find the right DICOM viewer. There are lots of both paid and unpaid DICOM viewers in the market and with that many options to choose from, it may seem overwhelming. Paid DICOM viewers come with lots of features, options, and support. They have their advantages and they are usually bought for hospital uses. But if you are only a medical student who doesn’t need that many options, you can just use a free one. If you search “DICOM CD viewer free” on the Internet, you will find a lot of options but not all of them are good. MicroDicom DICOM viewer
MicroDicom is a free DICOM image viewer that comes with an intuitive user interface and most common tools to view DICOM images. It runs on Windows. You can view DICOM images through MicroDicom for a wide range of DICOM modalities. It supports DICOM images without compression and RLE, JPEG Lossy, JPEG 2000 Lossy, etc. It has MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 transfer syntaxes and it provides structured reports.
You can produce encapsulated PDG and have access to open DICOM directory files. It can display patient lists from DICOMDIR and convert DICOM images into JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF, TIFF, etc. It can resize, rotate the images and can convert them to movie files format, too. This full-featured DICOM viewer is released as free software so that it can be used for non-commercial purposes. The user interface of this DICOM viewer is available in multiple languages, namely, English, German, French, and Spanish. It supports zooming, windowing, and resetting of images. You can measure distance, angle, and statistics for your DICOM images with this software. It can load files from local hard drives, networks, CD or DVD discs, and portable media like USB. It runs on Windows only.
Sante DICOM Viewer Free
Sante is also a free DICOM image viewer that works both as a standalone and as a portable within a CD or DVD. It can show DICOM images from DICOM directory. It runs on Windows and can view images from any PACS server. It’s recommended to use for non-commercial purposes only.
All of the DICOM image viewers mentioned above are free to use but not all of them are FDA approved so it’s prudent not to use them in a medical institute.
