1. Focus on Fonts and Font Sizes
It is very important to focus on what font you are using in your resume and of course the font size matter equally. It is because these two are the main factors which are perceived by the reader as soon as your resume is opened. Too many bold headings with large and fancy fonts already give an unprofessional feel to the reader or maybe make it difficult to even go through the whole resume due to these reasons. So, make sure to use the professional fonts and font sizes with a decent way of headings and subheadings which can appeal the reader to have a thorough study.
Also, make sure the font in the whole document is the same for the respective parts. You can scan or search a PDF document for that.
2. Give Social Media Links
Studies show that most of the recruiters go through your social media accounts before they call you for an interview. So, it is always encouraged to add your LinkedIn link in your resume which can perfectly reflect your skills the way you have mentioned in your resume. Also, if your work is related to social media then you should also add links of your blogs, portfolio or personal website along with your Twitter or Instagram links. The employer can then search PDF document for social links or email to get in touch with you.
3. Go Through Required Job Description Thoroughly
Many people make this mistake of sending the same resume to every job advertisement which does not result in much positive response. It is because you need to make changes in your resume as the required job description for any position you are applying for. This also shows a good level of professionalism when the received resume is perfectly aligned as per the required job description.
4. Be Specific and Comprehensive
It is believed that resumes longer than two pages are either ignored or not read in full due to its unwanted long length. Make sure you are being very specific and comprehensive about the information mentioned in your resume. Try not to write long sentences about your past experience and must mention at least one achievement with every workplace you have experienced in the past.
5. Use Power Words with Precise Sentences
Power words like earned, achieved, accomplished, completed and so on are very powerful to convince anyone to study your complete resume. Also, it gives an impression of a hard worker and the determined person on which an organization can trust quite easily. Along with power words, make sure you are using precise sentences which can highlight these power words to make your resume extraordinary for any job posting. If you have already written your resume, word search PDF document and replace weak words with power words.
6. It is Better to Remove References Section
Generally, people write it as references available on request which doesn’t serve any purpose usually in your resume. It is only wasting space as it is understood to provide a reference if any recruiter needs it. This section is generally considered as a silly mistake in beginners’ resumes so it is recommended to remove this section for a professionally tailored resume.
7. Don’t Forget to Proofread and Edit
There are always chances of human errors so make sure you are proofreading your resume before sending it finally for any job advertisement. Edit your resume wherever required and make it as flawless as possible.
